German Cities of Excellence 2008
German Cities of Excellence is an unique joint initiative between the Economic Development Corporations of Germany’s largest cities. The German cities involved are Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dresden, Duisburg, Essen, Frankfurt am Main and Munich. The purpose of the German Cities of Excellence initiative is to promote Germany and its major metropolitan areas as the most innovative business and technology clusters in Europe. The initiative started in 2001 under the label "German Cities of Excellence"
The German IT-sector is one of the main contributors to Germany’s economic strength with annual revenues totalling more than $ 270 bn. (estimated for 2008). Now, as the German economy is growing, consumers and corporate customers are actively seeking innovative products and qualified service in network infrastructure, mobile applications and security. Accelerators for growth are user software, IT-service, environmentally compatible hardware and broad band services.
Against the promising background the events of the German Cities of Excellence tour will offer perspectives on the latest developments in the German IT-market and present opportunities in Germany’s high-tech business including R&D and share the experiences of German and foreign firms which are doing business in Germany. The joint initiative and their partner companies provide a roadmap for North American companies wishing to export, form business partnerships and invest in Germany. In addition, the events will provide networking and practical advice on growing market share, setting up a business and achieving success in the German business environment. Senior management from German and North American companies in the IT-sector that already have invested in the regions form part of the "German Cities" delegation.
German Cities of Excellence – now in its seventh year in North America – has become an annual tradition and will 2008 journey into two dynamic North American business hubs at the west coast: Vancouver, Canada and San Francisco/Palo Alto, California.
